Ever been looking for a well produced example of a powerful, accessible, academic talk on, say, the difference between the way we experience happiness and the way we remember it given by Daniel Kahneman a groundbreaking researcher of choice theory (behavioral economics), or Richard Feynman talking about Physics, or Eve Ensler talking about our “inner girl,” or Edwidge Danticat talking about Haiti?
Maybe you want to show an example of a great presentation before students do one or teach them to look for argument or show them what critical thinking looks like or just show a video in class.
Well if so, then, TED is the place for you. Oh sure, you can poke around in YouTube if you’d like, but those videos come and go. Some are legit and some are pirated, and it’s a pain to find one you want, come into class and find that its been removed for one reason or another.
That doesn’t happen on TED, and the talks/videos there are pretty much 100% amazing. Bobby McFerrin on music, Bill Gates on innovation, Jamie Oliver on food education–smart people talking about things they know and love; hard to beat. Here is the list of talks that they have available, with more added all the time. And below is one of my favorites…for WHM:
Nellie McKay singing, “Feminists Don’t Have a Sense of Humor.” Ukelele!!

I love TED! I get e-mail reminders of new talks and I think they are the most interesting, compelling, innovative, & inspiring thing out there!

WOW!
I was waiting to record Jamie Oliver’s show on ABC regarding nutrition and bring it to the classroom. No need to wait anymore. I was unaware of this resource.
Thank you PhiloDave.
Where can I buy my ‘The Harold Lounge Made My Day’ bumper sticker?
