Next Up!

Next up! is a regular feature on Sundays, showcasing HWC (and beyond) events in the coming week. Use the “Comments” section to provide updates and additions!

Monday, 3/15: Hybrid Committee Meeting (3pm, Rm 609)–From Matt Usner’s email: “Just a reminder that we’ll be meeting on Monday. John Metoyer will be joining us at 3:30 to discuss the new requirements for hybrid faculty. We can take the first half hour to go over our “homework” assignments: the hybrid definition and the student self-readiness survey.”

Tuesday, 3/16: Informal CAST  (SLING) Meeting (3pm, Rm 1046)–Come to discuss ideas and issues related to student success with your faculty colleagues. The discussion will take off from, come back to, and/or utterly ignore some of the readings that the CAST Czar Chris Sabino has posted links to on their page in the lounge. Given all of the developments in the past week related to this topic–national standards, plans to rewrite NCLB, etc., the conversation is a timely one and promises to be an issue we should all be informed about. All are welcome.

ALSO Tuesday, 3/16: The Harold Washington College Jazz/Pop Ensemble Concert Event (2-3pm, Rm 102)–Come check out HW’s rockin’ band(s). It’s free.

Wednesday, 3/17: Loop Players’ Bus Stop Debut (7:15pm, Rm 103)–You can get more information here and get some great info about the play here. And if you can’t go on Wednesday night, there’s also a 7:15pm show on Friday, and 2pm matinees on Thursday and Saturday, and those days and times repeat next week, as well.

ALSO Wednesday, 3/17: Wellness Center Event–Relationship Safety Day (Time and Location, TBA). Hosted by Mike Russell of the Wellness Center and Dean Anna Blum. (More info when I have it; sorry.)

ALSO ALSO Wednesday, 3/17: St. Patrick’s Day (all day, everywhere)–Consider doing an Irish jig in the hallway or perhaps bringing me a shamrock cookie. I’m not really Irish, but I do like cookies. They go so nicely with Guinness…

Thursday, 3/18: Registration Deadline for “Technology in Education Day 2010” (11:59pm)–This year’s EphremPalooza (also known as TIE day) will take place on Friday, April 9th, from 8 to 4:30 and feature all kinds of sessions on new ways to use technology in your curriculum and in your own work. You can register at by clicking on this link. The conference is free for CCC faculty.
