Monday, 9/6: NO CLASSES. Labor day. Take a day off!
Tuesday, 9/7: Chicago Humanities Festival Tickets go on sale at 10am. If you’ve had your eye on something, get it fast so you’re not disappointed in November. Also there will be a local chapter Union meeting at 2pm in room 1115, Phil Stucky presiding. Surely there will be some discussion of the future of the local with his (and Art, our Grievance Chair’s) announced retirement(s). Also there will be a Women’s Studies Committee Meeting at 3:30pm in room 621. Also there will be a Faculty Council meeting at 3:37 pm in or near room 724. (umm…sorry; I meant NEXT Tuesday for this one. As in the 14th. Sorry if you were looking for it). All are welcome. We will surely be discussing what to do next in light of the Chancellor’s presentation. Also, Dr. Dwight McBride (Dean of College of Arts and Sciences at UIC) discusses the work of Toni Morrison in honor and relation of her book A Mercy, being chosen as this fall’s One Book, One Chicago text at Harold Washington Library, 6pm. The first 385 guests get a free copy of the book.
Wednesday, 9/8: Day One class rosters are due to the registrar by 5pm.
Thursday, 9/9: 1st CAST meeting 2pm 1046, all are welcome. Local do gooders, The Enterprising Kitchen (a not for profit that “uses transitional employment to provide job skills to women emerging from difficult circumstances”) is hosting a fundraiser at the “Rock and Roll Rooftop” 4th floor deck of 225 West Wacker Driver from 5:30 to 8:30pm. Tickets are $30 in advance (call 73.506.3880) or $35 at the door and include drinks, light appetizers, and music.
