  1. I haven’t listened to all of them but I’m basing my choices on buzz and hopes and snippets that I’ve caught. In cases that I was torn, I included the top 2 choices with my preference asterisked.

    #1 Album of the Year–Nominees:
    A) “The Suburbs,” Arcade Fire *
    B) “Recovery,” Eminem

    #2 Record of the Year–Nominees:
    D) “Need You Now,” Lady Antebellum

    #3 Song of the Year–Nominees:
    A) “Beg Steal or Borrow,” Ray LaMontagne

    #4 Best New Artist–Nominees:
    C) Florence and The Machine
    D) Mumford and Sons *

    #5 Best Pop Vocal Album–Nominees:
    C) “The Fame Monster,” Lady Gaga

    #6 Best Rock Album–Nominees:
    B) “The Resistance,” Muse *
    C) “Backspacer,” Pearl Jam

    #7 Best R and B Album–Nominees:
    D) “Wake Up!” John Legend and the Roots

    #8 Best Rap Album–Nominees:
    C) “Recovery,” Eminem
    D) “The Blueprint 3,” Jay-Z *

    #9 Best Country Album–Nominees:
    B) “You Get What You Give,” Zac Brown Band
    D) “Need You Now,” Lady Antebellum *

#10 Best Alternative Music Album–Nominees: This one’s especially tough. It will likely be Arcade Fire given the album’s critical acclaim (I haven’t heard all of it yet. I’m really hoping for Band of Horses or Broken Bells. Broken Bells wins for me ever so slightly over Band of Horses.)
    A) “The Suburbs,” Arcade Fire
    B) “Infinite Arms,” Band of Horses

    D) “Broken Bells,” Broken Bells *

    • Well done. You crushed me. I did not think that Lady Antebellum’s weak tea could win. Shows you what I know…

      • I had to live up to my name though I am surprised Lady Antebellum won that many though I have to admit that I really like the song. I’m a sucker for simple harmonies though.

  2. I am most definitely NOT picking the ones that I think deserve to win, nor the ones that I want to win–I am picking the ones I think will win (unless I really don’t want that one to win, in which case, I picked what I thought was the second best choice (because I hate rooting for something that I deeply despise; I’m ok with rooting for something to win that I don’t much care for–big difference)).

    Anyway, here goes:

    1. D
    2. C
    3. D
    4. A
    5. C
    6. B
    7. D
    8. D
    9. E
    10. C

  3. I’m not much into the Grammys and I remember a coworker once saying that it was a popularity contest. Still true? Is it about the number of sales and profits and less about true artistic merit?

There are a few artists that may be interesting and fascinating, but does that equal good or great?

    Signed,
    Dontknow
