Two items for you:
The Shriver Report makes for some interesting (though not without its flaws), reading on the current (2009) status of women in the culture and working world in particular.
Second, there are still shockingly few women working as Philosophers, and that needs to change.
What else do you have?
Here’s the link to some stats I found while thinking about this post:
http://nces.ed.gov/das/epubs/2002170/gender.asp
In case you don’t have time to read, here are a couple of facts from the report:
– Overall, men held higher ranks and were more likely than women to have tenure. Men were much more likely than women to be full professors, and 60 percent of men had tenure, compared with 42 percent of women.
– Men were more likely than women to be employed at public doctoral institutions, while women were more likely to work at public 2-year colleges.
Thanks for the facts boss. Would you say the philosopher stats you’ve presented are alarming?
Worse than that.
